Themes, palettes and font pairings

Your site's look is made of a colour scheme and a font pairing. This page lists every choice offered in Site Settings, Theme, so you can compare them before you pick. To change them, see Choose a ready-made theme, Change your colours and Change your fonts.

A site that has never saved a theme uses Plain: the one colour Midnight, with the Plain font pairing (Source Serif 4 for headings and Source Sans 3 for text).

The 15 ready-made themes

A theme is a colour scheme and a font pairing that go together. Picking one sets both, and you can change either afterwards. The site stores the colours and fonts, not the theme's name.

One-colour choices

A plain scheme is white pages with fixed greys and one colour that does the work: the header band, buttons and links. You can pick one of four, or your own.

ColourValue
Midnight#23395b
Burgundy#7a1f2b
Plum#4e2a55
Charcoal#33373d

White text has to be readable on the colour (a contrast of 4.5 to 1). A colour of your own that is too pale for that is not refused: it becomes a thin stripe across the top of a white header, and buttons and links use a dark grey instead.

The 17 four-colour palettes

A palette has four colours: Primary (the dark colour that fills the top of the home page and the footer), Primary dark (for gradients), Accent (buttons and highlights) and Cream (a pale background tint). You can also enter four colours of your own.

The 14 font pairings

Each pairing is a heading font and a text font. Fonts that need downloading are fetched from Google Fonts when a visitor opens the page; System fonts download nothing.
