Limits

This page gathers the limits you can run into, so you do not have to find them by trial and error. Where a limit comes from a message the product shows, the message is quoted.

Uploads

A file that is too large is refused with "File too large. Maximum size is 10MB." (with the real figure). An empty rehearsal track is refused with "That file is empty".

On a site we host

These sizes are fixed by us. They are the figures in the table.

On a self-hosted site

The sizes above are the defaults. You change them with UPLOAD_MAX_IMAGE_MB, UPLOAD_MAX_GALLERY_MB, UPLOAD_MAX_FILE_MB and UPLOAD_MAX_TRACK_MB; see Public file addresses and upload limits. On Cloudflare Workers keep the gallery limit under about 90 MB, the size of request they accept.

Lists in Site Settings

Each list has a most number of entries. Going over it is refused with "has too many entries" (or, for a box with one entry per line, "has too many lines") and the number allowed.

Other limits in Site Settings:

• Every text box has its own length limit, shown beside the box. Text over the limit is refused, not cut short ("is too long (80 characters at most)").
• Text from the formatting editor can be up to 100,000 characters.
• A line in a one-per-line box is cut to 300 characters.
• A web address can be up to 2,000 characters.
• Year founded must be between 1000 and 3000.
• The custom style sheet can be up to 20,000 characters (self-hosted sites only); see Custom style sheet: names to style by.

Writing assistant	30 pieces of writing a day for the site by default (self-hosted: AI_DAILY_LIMIT; 0 for no limit). Text to polish can be up to 4,000 characters.
