Feature switches: what each one shows and hides

The Features section of Site Settings has 17 switches. Each turns a page or a part of the site on or off. This page lists exactly what each one controls, which is useful when something you expect is missing from the menu. For the steps to change a switch, see Switch pages and features on or off.

The switches

The Default column is the setting a new site starts with. The Plan column is the hosted plan that must also include the feature; self-hosted sites have no plans, so it never applies to them. See Plans and editions compared.

Notes on particular rows:

  • Contact form. Off, visitors see the Contact section's address and details but no form, and the server refuses a message with "The contact form is turned off". On a hosted Free site the form works, but messages are kept under Messages instead of being emailed.
  • Sell tickets on this site. Its help text in Site Settings: "Switch this off if your tickets are sold through another service: each concert then simply links to it, and Ticketing leaves the admin panel." The server then answers "Tickets are not sold on this site" to orders.
  • Keep donor records on this site. Off, Donors leaves the admin panel. The Donate page is separate and stays, but a gift cannot be given online, because online gifts become donor records.
  • Past directors page. There is no menu item for it: visitors reach it from a link in the About section.
  • Auditions page. There is no menu item for it either: visitors reach it from the Contact section.
  • Hosted plans. If your plan lacks a feature, the feature is off whatever its switch says, and the switch keeps your setting so it is right again after you upgrade. A plan without the member portal turns off the portal and its five parts together; a plan without ticketing turns off Sell tickets on this site; a plan without donor management turns off Keep donor records on this site.

What "off" means

  • Hidden, not deleted. Switching a feature off removes it from menus and from the admin panel's menu and dashboard. The data stays: your concerts, gallery items, members, orders and donors are all still there, and come back when you switch it on again. The server never deletes anything because of a switch.
  • The address goes to the home page. Someone who types the address of a switched-off page, such as /gallery, is sent to the home page.
  • Some addresses keep working. A ticket buyer's private link (/tickets/order/...), a donor's thank-you link (/donate/thanks/...) and the unsubscribe page work whatever is switched off, so that nobody loses their tickets or cannot stop an email. See Addresses on your site.
  • Your own pages are not switches. Pages you add under Pages are shown or hidden on their own; see Drafts, menus and the order of your pages.
