Addresses on your site

Many settings ask for a link or Goes to address: a button, a promo box, a menu. This page lists the addresses you can give them, and what must be switched on for each to work. Write them as shown, starting with / for a page on your own site and # for a section of the home page.

Each address on the site is shown as the part after your site's name. If your site is https://choir.example.org, then /tickets is https://choir.example.org/tickets.

Member portal

All of these need Member portal to be on (on a site we host, the Starter or Premium plan), and the ones below it need their own switch too.

Admin panel

AddressWhat it is
/adminGoes to the dashboard (or to the login page if you are not logged in)
/admin/loginThe admin login
/admin/dashboard and the pages below itThe admin panel itself. Which pages appear depends on your role and on which features are on; see Roles and permissions and A tour of the admin panel.

The footer shows a link to the admin login only if Show the admin login link is on in Site Settings, Footer. Turning it off hides the link; the address still works.

Each page is sent with a few lines that say what it is, for search engines and for the preview shown when a link is shared. See How your site looks when a link is shared.

AddressesWhat is sent
The public pages: /, /tickets, /donate, /auditions, /gallery, /past-events, /past-directors, /resources and /p/ followed by a page's addressYour choir's name, description, icon and preview picture, and the page's own proper address.
/tickets/order/…, /donate/thanks/… and /unsubscribeYour name and icon, and a request to search engines not to list the page.
Everything under /member and /adminThe same: name, icon, and a request not to be listed.
Any other addressYour name and icon only. The visitor is taken to the home page.

Capital letters, a slash at the end or a doubled slash make no difference: /Tickets/ is the Tickets page, and its proper address is given as /tickets.

Addresses your own pages may not use

When you add a page, you choose its address, the part after /p/. A page may not use a word the site uses itself. Choosing one of these is refused with "... is used by the site itself; choose another address":

admin, member, api, files, tickets, donate, auditions, gallery, past-events, past-directors, resources, login, unsubscribe

An address is made of lower-case letters, digits and hyphens, up to 80 characters. Other characters are turned into hyphens.

What happens at an address that is off or does not exist

  • A page whose feature is switched off (for example /gallery with the gallery off) sends the visitor to the home page. See Feature switches.
  • An address that does not exist also goes to the home page: the site does not show a "page not found" message.
  • One of your own pages that is a draft, or has been deleted, goes to the home page.
  • A member page when the member portal is off goes to the home page. A member who is not logged in is asked to log in.
  • Files such as pictures are served at /files/ followed by the file's name. You do not choose these; the site makes them when you upload.

See Drafts, menus and the order of your pages for your own pages.
